Afternoon tea

We went to the hotel, for the first time, to celebrate our wedding anniversary by having an Afternoon Tea. The place was spotless and the area for the tea had been created to give the impression of a parlour which made you feel separate from the main hotel and restaurant area. The staff were very friendly and very helpful.
We'd go again for sure!

Had a meal after seeing a play at Garrick theatre. Great service and great food and selection. Nice setting in heart of main centre. Staff are friendly and helpful.

We often visit Lichfield for a night out and when we do we always eat at Darwin's Restaurant at The George Hotel.
There is a good selection of food on the menu and it is served promptly and politely.

We celebrated my mother in law’s 92nd birthday at the George recently.
We booked a private room and ordered the ploughmans buffet.
The room was set out nicely and there was plenty of room for our 20 guests.
The food was really very good and varied as in our party we had vegans, vegetarians and some with allergies. All were catered for.
We were extremely well looked after. My thanks to all who were involved in making it such a lovely occasion.

I can highly recommend the carvery at the George. It is excellent value and the food is very good. The staff very very friendly, courteous, and the atmosphere cosy. We thoroughly enjoyed a family Sunday lunch there.

What a Gem this Hotel is...we went for a Sunday Carvery and was greeted by lovely staff ...the food was top notch and starters were a buffet style with prawns, salmon, salad and pate, main course was a choice of meats turkey, beef, gammon, which is served thick and cooked superbly then help yourself to veg...very very good quality and value, highly recommend.

Really lovely afternoon tea ! Nicely served and absolutely delicious food! Great value and highly recommended. Good sandwiches and cakes and especially the scones! Very nice with a glass of Prosecco too! Made a family meet up a bit more special.
Sunday Carvery Darwin Restaurant

Once again this wonderful Hotel Restaurant came up superb...went for a Sunday carvery after our second visit in 5 weeks... special mention for our fantastic waitress Shona who is very professional and polite also very efficient in her job....top marks to the George Hotel.

Where To Eat in Lichfield City Centre
Lichfield is a popular destination to visit, thanks to its scenic charm, so it's not surprising there are numerous eating places in Lichfield centre. In fact, you can find a wide variety of choices, from European Cuisine at McKenzies In The City to Ego Mediterranean Restaurant and Bar. Of course, there are also numerous wine bars, brasseries and pizzerias to enjoy for more casual dining, too.
Being in the city centre means that there are numerous locations all within a short walk, allowing for a very relaxing breakfast, lunch or dinner. The George is also based a stone’s throw from here, but more on us later.
Further Afield
Lichfield isn’t the biggest city, so you’ll quickly find yourself in the surrounding countryside. Here, you can find numerous country pubs and restaurants that are popular with locals, such as The Owl at Lichfield, even if they are significantly less convenient to get too.
Our advice? If you’re travelling around the region, do some research and choose a nearby restaurant (we’re more than happy to give some recommendations).
The George
So, what about The George itself? We have our own on-site restaurant to enjoy! Darwin’s Restaurant is open for is open for dinner every evening from 6 pm. We offer numerous modern British delights, as well as a full grill and fixed price menus.
Casual Lounge Dining
While eating out in Lichfield has its merits, it’s nice to also have a casual and relaxing option as well. This is where the Lounge Bar at The George is also useful. We offer breakfast, lunch (including a carvery) and dinner here, so let us take care of all the hard work while you enjoy a carefree meal.
Here, you can also find many of our specialities, such as afternoon tea and free membership to our gin club. So, whether it’s a girl's night out or a romantic weekend away, the lounge bar can cover all needs and is open throughout the day.
